Today started with a delicious breakfast and a long, VERY long, bus ride to church. (We were all saying how thankful we were that we didn’t have a two hour trip to church each time we go.) We have had LEGENDARY bus drivers this week as they’ve navigated crazy terrain, busy traffic and crowded streets. Today was no different.
It is always an amazing experience to worship with people in other nations. Different culture, different language, same God, same family! I absolutely love singing a song in English while the song is being lead in Spanish...it was like heaven. From the building, singing, praying, hearing the message, ministry, fellowship...this morning was an amazing time with spiritual family. (We also were asked to pray for a group of children in the church who had great need. This little boy needs new glasses! Please pray with us!)
We spent a lot of time resting and hanging out this afternoon. A few of us also went to an afternoon service to help minister. This is the church that Pastor Ramon (gentlemen that works for BCM and leads the street evangelism efforts) pastors and leads. The students experienced God in a powerful way...and also said it was more hot than it had been all week! 😳
We ended today with a POWERFUL worship service where Hunter brought a passionate, strong message on Jesus > death! Man oh man, we are blessed with a wonderful youth pastor! We were all so proud that he was ours!
We are going to end this blog with quotes from our leaders. What a fabulous group of leaders that I’ve had the privilege to be a part of...your students are in safe hands. I’ve watched them lead selflessly as they slept less, ate last, stepped up, humbled themselves, and LOVED these students. The students have had shoulders to stand on which is why they’ve flourished into powerful ministers of the gospel! So get ready, they’re coming home to you changed! Make room for their big faith!
So, that’s my “quote”! The others are below! It’s been an honor to serve you by writing this blog. May all of our lives be a letter penned for Jesus to live loud through us. Much love,
Karla G 💚
Brent: The power of stepping out in faith to do the simple things the gospel has called us to do is always met by God’s abundant grace. I saw that power over and over again through our students and leaders and it was amazing! If we will trust and obey God will always meet us in that moment and use us to glorify His name.
Courtney: God has shown me His deep love for His people this week. His love breaks through every boundary. It’s amazed me to be able to communicate with the Mexican people, even with a language barrier. I’m thankful God used me, a broken vessel, to minister to the people of Baja. My life is forever altered, and I’ve fallen in love with these people. I’m grateful. Thanks be to God for His work this week.
Emerson: The Lord has shown me how His kingdom comes and breaks through us, ordinary, sinful people who have been revolutionized by His grace. It comes through a smile, playing futbol, face painting, nerf gun fights, compassion for the fatherless, rich and poor, praying, healing, the declaration of the Gospel and so much more.
It’s amazing how God has used those who are unencumbered by what school, society, social media and sin say about them. Many are now walking in freedom through the Holy Spirit! We have truly seen Jesus this week!
Hunter: I loved seeing God operate in students and the Holy Spirit manifest His presence among our people to minister to the people of Baja. I loved students seeing the Bible lived right in front of them. They read the scripture and they see it happen later that day! Students have witnessed the power of God in ways they can’t deny. My hope and prayer is that students will allow this experience to shape and mold the context of the lives they’re walking back into. May they be as willing to pray with the same boldness in Evans that they did in Baja. May they share the gospel and their testimony with the same power that they did in Baja. I’m grateful to have led this team, it’s been an honor to witness God move in our midst.
Kate: God has been showing me how to operate more in the Holy Spirit. We have laid hands on, prayed, had visions and engrained the faces of the many people we ministered to in our minds. Most of all, I've seen the power of the Holy Spirit moving in our faith to complete these good works and these people have become our family. They live their lives with open hearts/hands and we have much to learn from them. They are in my heart forever. Also, I'm SO PROUD of the youth and everything they have done and had faith for this week. Jesus was with them and it showed.
Kimberly: This week we heard the quote “as you go you grow”. As someone who was so fearful to go, I’m so glad I did. I’m grateful God lovingly nudged me to step forward in obedience. I have seen the people of Baja through the eyes of God. I have compassion for them. I have fallen in love with them. I’ve also fallen more in love with God. I’m coming home hungry for more and excited to continue being a vessel for the Lord to use and work through. Glory to God for what He has done this week!
We leave at 4:45am/7:45am EST tomorrow morning to head towards the border and on you San Diego. Our flight is around 10:30am/1:30pm EST. ☺️
